Many Local Authorities keep a register of disabled children int heir area. It’s a good idea to join the register as soon as your child receives a diagnosis, you can speak to your health visitor, social worker or local Family Information Service about how to do this.

Portage and Portage Workers
Often managed by your Early Year’s team, Portage is a pre-school service offering in-home play based sessions and can sometimes be referred to as ‘inclusion’. The level of service offered varies depending on your local authority, with some offering a limited number of sessions whilst others are open ended.
The sessions usually take place during term time and offer an opportunity for our children to learn through play. The Portage worker can also support the family in other ways, offering a link between parents and pre-school/ reception teachers. They can also help to organise anything that needs to be in place at school, such as integration into school and liaising with teachers.
